Job Duties:
- Lead daily programs in an all outdoor setting, offer specific lessons, activities and/ or themes based on student interest, seasonal discoveries or personal passion as relevant to student learning and whole child development.
- Communicate with parents daily or weekly as needed and record student activities using photos, video and messages/ notes daily or weekly via Brightwheel and submit learning highlights, commentary and photos to WOS Director for Board presentations, donor updates and fundraising efforts.
- Work with Co-Teachers to create and share a Class Newsletter once a month per seasonal session.
- Carry a backpack with supplies including water/ cups, first aid kit, learning tools and resources, other supplies, shelter in place kit and bear/cougar spray.
- Make sure your backpack is stocked and communicate back pack supply needs to the Director each week or as needed.

Get a TB Test. ONB providers, including volunteers, must provide documentation signed within the last twelve months by a licensed health care professional of tuberculosis (TB) testing or treatment consisting of:
(a) A negative TB symptom screen and negative TB risk assessment;
(b) A previous positive FDA-approved TB test and a current negative chest radiograph and documentation of clearance to safely work in an ONB program; or
(c) A positive symptom screening or a positive risk assessment with documentation of:
i. A current negative FDA-approved TB test;
ii. A previous or current positive FDA-approved TB test; and
iii. A current negative chest radiograph and documentation of clearance to safely work in an ONB program.
Upon notification of TB exposure, ONB providers may be required to be retested for TB as directed by the local health jurisdiction.

Attend Outdoor Nature-Based Program Orientation. ONB applicants, co applicants, licensees, directors, program directors, assistant directors, site directors, program supervisors, and applicable lead teachers, when none of the previously listed individuals are on-site, must complete a department provided outdoor nature-based program orientation. Prior to being in charge of the ONB program fifty percent of the time or more, those newly promoted or assuming a role of one of the roles listed here must complete or be registered in ONB orientation training. Make sure CPR/First Aid is up to date. All staff in licensed classrooms must maintain current training and certification in Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid (Adult and Child) .
Note: Acceptable First Aid and CPR Training must:
Be delivered in person.
Include a hands-on component for first aid and CPR that is demonstrated in front of an instructor who is certified by a nationally recognized certification program (i.e. American Red Cross, American Heart Association, etc.).
Include child and adult CPR.

Now hiring teachers for the 2023-2024 School year to support Washington Outdoor School’s new After School program in coordination with the Cle Elum Roslyn School District. The program serves Kindergarten through 5th graders, September-May. Teaching positions are Monday-Thursday from 2:45 to 5:00p.m. with additional time for planning and a required staff meeting once a month.
Ideal candidates will have more than a year of experience working with children in an educational setting and are comfortable helping students navigate behavioral challenges.

Summer Camp Lead Instructor

Washington Outdoor School is known for our vibrant, active and varied summer programming. We offer multi-day theme based 4 day camp weeks that include a wide variety of experiences for children ages 3 to 11. Teachers work together to make each week special and enjoyable for the kids, and each other, so constant communication with each other is very important as is regular communication with the Camp Supervisor.
Ideal candidate:
• Preferred A.A. or B.A. in Education related field with endorsement in Early Childhood, Elementary and/ or Secondary Education and/ or Environmental, Science-based education -OR- a degree in progress with applicable coursework.
• Experience working with children Preschool through Elementary Age in a supervisory role (i.e. babysitting, volunteer work, summer camp counseling)

Job Duties for Lead Camp Instructor:
Work with your Assistant Camp Instructor (ACI) to lead daily programs in an all outdoor setting, offering specific lessons and activities that highlight the camp theme while also accommodating students’ interest, seasonal discoveries and personal passions as you move through each day.
Check in with your Assistant Camp Instructor prior to each day and after class to make sure you are on the same page and preparing/ trouble shooting for the following day.
Provide the following communication:
Each morning at least ONE hour before camp or the night before send a message to families regarding what kids can be looking forward to doing and any reminders needed (i.e.“please remember to pack a full water bottle and a change of clothes” or “we have a special visitor coming from the forest service today to talk about birds”)
Each afternoon send a summary message to families regarding the day’s activities, highlights, pictures.
Send pictures via Brightwheel during the camp day every day at least ONE time, if not, more. Decide between you and your ACI who will take on this responsibility.
Carry a backpack with extra water, cups, snack, first aid kit, learning tools and resources, other supplies including one staff person carries the shelter in place kit (Detailed backpack supply list will be in your pack). Alert camp Supervisor when supplies need to be replenished.
Communicate concerns to Camp Supervisor, School Director or Administrative Manager as needed.

Participate in planning meetings with all Camp staff each week and the Camp Supervisor as needed. Special camp training prior to camp start the week of June 20th.

Summer Camp Assistant Instructor

• H.S. Diploma or GED
• Experience working with children Preschool through Elementary Age in a supervisory role (i.e. babysitting, volunteer work, summer camp counseling)
• A love for and commitment to getting children outside to make meaningful connections that support long term growth and understanding about human relationships and interconnectedness within the natural world as well as human impact on ecological health and systems.
• Experience spending extended periods of time outside (overnight camping, hiking, rock climbing, backpacking) and comfort working outside in all types of weather Fall through Spring.
• Ability to maintain a positive attitude in the face of challenges and discomfort
• Patience with young children
• Current First Aid/ CPR Certification for Infants/Children and Adults or willingness and ability to attend a training within the first month of employment
• Clear background check through MERIT Portable Background Check Process, must submit prior to employment
• Able to lift/ carry up to 25 lbs
• Can provide 3 references who can speak to experience with children and other work experience

Washington Outdoor School is known for our vibrant, active and varied summer programming. We offer multi-day theme based 4 day camp weeks that include a wide variety of experiences for children ages 3 to 11. Teachers work together to make each week special and enjoyable for the kids, and each other, so constant communication with each other is very important as is regular communication with the Camp Supervisor. Furthermore, consistent, clear communication with families must happen every day in the capacities outlined below in the job duties.
Job Duties for Assistant Camp Instructor:
Work with your Lead Camp Instructor (LCI) to lead daily programs in an all outdoor setting, offering specific lessons and activities that highlight the camp theme while also accommodating students’ interest, seasonal discoveries and personal passions as you move through each day.
Check in with your Lead Camp Instructor (LCI) prior to each day and after class to make sure you are on the same page and preparing/ trouble shooting for the following day.
Provide the following communication: Support LCI in documenting daily experiences using photos and description in Brightwheel. Send at least 1 photo per student in each class per day.
Carry a backpack with extra water, cups, snack, first aid kit, learning tools and resources, other supplies including one staff person carries the shelter in place kit (Detailed backpack supply list will be in your pack). Alert camp Supervisor when supplies need to be replenished.
Communicate concerns to your LCI, Camp Supervisor, School Director or Administrative Manager as needed.

Participate in planning meetings with all Camp staff each week and the Camp Supervisor as needed. Special camp training prior to camp start the week of June 20th.
